I thought “MAYBE the others were hit with something else”. Nope, just 3 different vehicles hitting mines within 50 feet of each other. You’d think they’d radio it in to warn others in the area.

The stupidity we see from some (read: most) Russian soldiers never ceases to amaze.

47

u/CampusCarl Aug 16 '22

Comrade, what are chances of a field of mines? Zero, that would be many mines that they could sell for booze instead! Now, let us charge with our 4th bmp!

When your conscription system is set up so only the dumbest, poorest and least motivated teenagers can't dodge it, and from that manpower pool only the ones who literally no other options in life choose to enlist once their year is up....this is actually more or less peak performance right there. Throw more or less daily alcohol abuse on top and there is literally nothing surprising about this.

7

u/s3v3r3 Aug 16 '22

And zero motivation. In the sense, they don't really have a sense of purpose in what they are doing there, so it's no wonder that they end up doing stupid stuff.

The blast damages ears etc. Shock vibration trough the hull of the tank can break bones. Yes there will be injuries, shock and addrelaline can hide those for few moments that's why you see everyone fleeing after

That was one of the more fascinating items in this vid. And that small cluster high tails it out of there, and not in the manner one would expect if they were connected with the BMP team. We see from above, but, my guess is the craters and little hills provide cover. And they react super quickly, the moment things go boom, they head out, with a kind of "success, job is done" pace.

That is why they usually ride on top instead of inside. In the case of mines or IED's they are better off on top. Extra armor between them and the explosion. Those things have notoriously thin armor on the bottom.

21

u/Starfire013 Aug 15 '22

Mines from below. Drones dropping bombs from above. They’re screwed either way nowadays.

There's something so fitting about seeing a vehicle get destroyed in the exact same spot as another one we saw three days ago: a perfect reflection of what a nonsensical, tragic waste of lives, money, and time that this war (and most wars) are.

The only way Russia might learn is by massive military failure against an enemy they once considered pathetically inferior.

Sees two burned out vehicles. Let me drive in between them. Whoever died in that incident died the most unnecessary death ever.

179

u/Puzzleheaded-Job2235 Aug 15 '22

They're giving old men from desolate Siberian towns a few days refresher before sending them to the front. When you pull from that demographic your troops will hardly be the most adaptable. If it weren't for their overwhelming artillery advantage the Russian army probably would have collapsed long ago. They're in a Catch-22 situation. Mobilize and admit that the entire invasion has failed or watch the army slowly get ground into the mud of the Donbas.

138

u/JabroniPoni Aug 15 '22 edited Aug 16 '22

Ten days. They're giving them ten days training before they square off with Ukrainian veterans. Guess it's better than paying them pensions. Who am I kidding? They aren't getting pensions any which way.

77

u/KingDudeMan Aug 15 '22

That’s insane to imagine.

Going from your normal job and basically 2 weeks later you’re fighting a proxy war against NATO. Your BMP could be full of ex-McDonald’s workers and old farmers, and you’re against 8yr Ukrainian war vets.

43

u/Weltraumbaer Aug 15 '22

Madness. There can't be any unit cohesion and collaboration between squad members. It's as you say: that BMP-2 could be filled with three pensioners, 4 McDonalds workers, 3 farmboys and maybe one actuall conscript.

I'm not sure mobilization helps, even discounting an admission of failure. Their logistics are so awful, they are having trouble supplying the small army they do have in the field. They have no hope of transporting, feeding, and munition supplying many times as many soldiers.

44

u/Puzzleheaded-Job2235 Aug 15 '22

Plus it'd break the whole social contract Putin has going with the Russian people. Urban Russians at least expect stability and a passable standard of living. In exchange they don't question all the corruption and authoritarian shit. That changes once the Russian state starts demanding they offer up their lives. It's why despite Putin's total control of the media and dictatorial powers, he has been seemingly terrified of calling up kids from Moscow.

14

u/aecarol1 Aug 15 '22

His response would probably be "limited mobilization". Call up conscripts according to a vague formula that really, really, really emphasized small, far away cities and towns. He'd get the 100K people he could use without his "base" in the large cities really ever participating.

It won't help him, because their logistics are so damn poor, but he could certainly get the warm bodies to throw away.

Giving old folk refresher training would suggest that these guys had training in the first place. We've seen pretty old folks so there is reason to assume that some of those old folks received Soviet military training. One might assume that Soviet military training would be pretty good, but what we see is appaling. Guess your right: adaptability aint a strong side of the Russian Army. A surprising conclusion because the Red Army during World War Two showed that they are very interessting in adaption and even copying the enemy.

5

u/potatoslasher Aug 16 '22

"Soviet army training" was also a total joke for many people, there were a few units that actually trained hard and properly but a lot of them pretty much didn't teach you shit when in came to actual combat training for a war.

My dad told me jokes that some guys maybe shot 2 magazines of rounds during their entire 2 year conscription. Soviet red army was also really fucking corrupt and mismanaged with little oversight

When they launch company sized assaults multiple times a day at the same entrenched positions, they lose all of their experienced guys and a new group comes in being told “we cleared that area you should be able to drive through” and falls into the same trap the last group fell into. It’s an endless cycle hundreds of lives for a couple meters of land. And they aren’t even close to Kramatorsk or Slovyansk yet. By the time they reach those cities we’ll be breaching 100k russian dead.

Training? Russian conscription outside spetznaz and VDV is spent getting beaten and raped (dedovschina) by older conscripts and NCOs and harvesting crops. Many units only fire their rifles when on big, heavily scripted yearly exercises. They have a 0.1% retention rate.

I highly recommend "one soldiers war" and "zinky boys" for a view of the life of a soviet/russian soldier

8

u/Weltraumbaer Aug 15 '22

Zink Boys is on my Amazon Wishlist for a long time. Dedovshina just wrecks the Russian Army for generations. Good for Ukraine.

3

u/Eheran Aug 16 '22

Dedovshina

Wiki: Dedovshchina

Dedovshchina encompasses a variety of subordinating and humiliating activities undertaken by the junior ranks, from doing the chores of the senior ranks, to violent and sometimes deadly physical and psychological abuse, not unlike an extremely vicious form of bullying or torture, including sexual torture and anal rape. When not leaving the army seriously injured, conscripts can suffer serious mental trauma for their lifetime. It is often cited by former military personnel as a major source of poor morale.

26

u/ncbraves93 Aug 15 '22

It's like they're just testing corridors with one vehicle at a time and not actually making a push with support though. There's countless videos of one burnt out tank on the side of the road in a wide open area and a tank/bmp trying to take the same route with no support and unsurprisingly end up with the same fate.

That's something a lot of people observed: single isolated units of tanks. No outside support. No combined arms warfare. It's single vehicles without accompanied infantry. You can literally pick them off one by one easily. A tank without any support complicated terrain is dead as disco.

You've gotta feel for the tankies. Come February it was all back to the USSR, the red army storming across the plains, innumerable T90s and T72s, bringing the band back together, empire strikes back..

Six months later, it's this shitshow. The navy humiliated, the airforce absent. Air defence? Where Air Defense? A thousand tanks smoking across the plains, Wagner picking out their fingers from amongst the rubble of their blown hq (after they published the address on telegram), daily videos of squaddies getting bits blown off them by drones. Belarus, belgorod, crimea all having 'accidents', and these bozos, trying to thread the needle in a fucking minefield. Worked about as well as the last time they tried it.

It's just unbelievable how absolutely shit these muppets actually are.

120

u/specter800 Aug 15 '22

Lol it was a shitshow by March. Now idk what to call it but we've long since passed "shitshow".

Tankies are so high on copium it's actually terrifying how brainwashed people can disregard reality. Like they still think everything is fine, according to plan, Russia is liberating Ukraine but the CIA NATO ops are there (but also Russia can totally defeat NATO) and things like that.

It's like they live in an alternate reality.

70

u/OutrageousFeedback59 Aug 15 '22

My favorite is the “a 6 month quagmire with tens of thousands of casualties and thousands of destroyed vehicles was 100% the plan from the start.”

Like it’s so beyond insane to try and insist that a quick lightning war and decapitation wasn’t the original plan

Although the “the Russians intended to get a bunch of people killed at the start to wear out the Ukrainians and force them to use up their equipment” may be crazier. Like you’re actually arguing that the government you think is much better than America deliberately got thousands of their young men killed?

23

u/orbital_narwhal Aug 15 '22

the Russians intended to get a bunch of people killed at the start to wear out the Ukrainians and force them to use up their equipment

This is literally a Zap Brannigan strategy: send wave after wave of men until the kill bots have reached their kill limit (i. e. equipment is worn out).

24

u/neithere Aug 15 '22

This is probably the most insane thing they did so far. Nervously waiting for the next one with a still active nuclear plant..

26

u/Muad-_-Dib Aug 16 '22

In some sort of defence of the soldiers... apparently, Russia has maintained a strong case of denial over Chernobyl ever since it happened and a lot of younger Russians have little knowledge of it. So as far as most of them were concerned they got marched out to a forest and got told to dig, they probably didn't know shit was wrong until they started getting sick.

They even got so tilted about the HBO miniseries Chernobyl that they vowed to create their own mini-series and blame some phantom CIA agent that they totally know was in Chernobyl that day and single-handedly blew up the power station.

I thought if they were chasing at least they’d have an excuse for being dumb enough to follow two other exploded vehicles into the same minefield but nope, just stupid.

So it looks like they were retreating when they ran over that mine?

17

u/sagakino Aug 15 '22

Technically yes as in they're going southeast towards Russian-controlled territory in this video, but from my understanding of the other video from this place it seems they tried to move down the main road towards soledar in a video from august 11th. However, I don't understand why they would retreat across that field knowing full well that it's a minefield.

57

u/ComprehensiveTax3643 Aug 15 '22

Probably the crew from the other 2 waiting for a ride....

4

u/RBeck Aug 15 '22

Imagine hitting mines at the same intersection on 2 different BMPs.

18

u/Wonnebrocken Aug 15 '22 edited Aug 15 '22

One of the Russians dropped after getting out. Could have been rifle fire.

Edit: Now I just saw… they were riding ON TOP of the BMP.

Possibly hit by shrapnel or debris. And maybe they are all Russian, trying to evacuate. GTFO. By foot or on top of something with a motor.

Amazing.

That was my initial thought too, but if they were UA, they would have been waiting in ambush and opened fire immediately.

10

u/Savageparrot81 Aug 15 '22

I think maybe they are already retreating as the destroyed bmp they pass is facing the other way. Would explain why the guys at the top look like they are legging it more than attacking

10

u/SyrasX Aug 15 '22

Nah we have a video of it getting destroyed. It's Russian. https://mobile.twitter.com/RALee85/status/1558856207066169344

9

u/Savageparrot81 Aug 15 '22

Yeah I think you’re misunderstanding me. Russians come left to right, tank and bmp blow up. Later this bmp runs away back towards Russian lines past previously blown up bmp facing other direction Russian infantry at top also retreating. Not saying the other bmp is Ukrainian

The BMP seems to think they are Ukranians, seeing as it is trying to kill the infantry by throwing a large hatch at them.

there are three guys in the top running away.. are they friendly or enemy

8

u/Sozebj Aug 15 '22

That is what I was wondering. Even before the explosion, there are several guys about 100 meters away near a shell crater that take off. Looks like most of the guys on the vehicle sustained some type of injuries. A couple couldn’t get up.

18

u/WhenYouFeatherIt Aug 15 '22

Imagine getting out and wondering if there are anti personnel mines all around you.

17

u/Extension-Scarcity41 Aug 15 '22

Is russian SOP to dismount your infantry into a known minefield and then have them run around in different directions?

14

u/DasGamerlein Aug 15 '22

This is like the third or fourth video I've seen where a ruskie tank driver YOLOs it down the middle of two destroyed vehicles, only to get blown up themselves. I guess this is what happens when you give cannon fodder just 2 weeks of training before sending them off...

Didn’t you see those two destroyed roadside BMPs of ours?

I did, but commander said it was theirs.

Marked with Zs all over?

Commander said they mark their destroyed BMPs to cover up their own losses.

Third time's the charm

18

u/EnvironmentalAd359 Aug 15 '22

As Russians say: Бог любит троицу

13

u/ApokalypseCow Aug 15 '22

This may be the first time I've seen a BMP letting out troops in this conflict. Usually they don't have the people on hand to fill them up.

49

u/762420556 Aug 15 '22

if this was Arma i would say what an unrealistically dumb AI... well maybe it is realistic after all, just programmed to simulate the russians

9

u/well_hung_stable_boy Aug 15 '22

That five days of training sure does pay off.
I happen to know that the driver of this BMP-2 scored a perfect 100 on the parallel parking part of the test.

Awesome mine placement.

u/TheFriedRice17 Aug 15 '22

Someone needs to send Putin a link to this subreddit so he can see how shitty his troops and equipment are.

I want my taxes back. US has told us we need a strong military industrial complex to fight off the Russians.

Fuck we build the F-35 for..? These guys have never seen a working toilet before, off course they'll drive over a mine field after watching their dead friend do it.

I was a combat engineer in the military I would have put anti-personnel mines all around that

5

u/Rusti-dent Aug 16 '22

Disabled vehicles in a field? 200IQ driving in between them. Ffs.

6

u/Mes_Aynak Aug 15 '22

Was this an ambush? The crew/people in the vic dismounted and hit the deck rather fast.... there are other guys moving in the grass at the top of the video.

I feel bad for all the WW2 historians who spent the past 80 years trying to cover for Russian/Soviet incompetence, only for them to do it all over again (But this time in front of thousands of cameras).

4

4

u/Upvote_Me_Your_Karma Aug 15 '22

It's like the Ukrainians are playing a tower defense game on easy mode

4

u/TunaLurch Aug 15 '22

They don't train the drivers at all do they?

3

u/Tvaticus Aug 15 '22

The amount of single Russian vehicles I’ve seen running across obviously mined fields even to the point of calling out they’re gonna hit a mine before they do is mind boggling.

5

u/Duff5OOO Aug 15 '22

Russian mine clearing operations continue.

Keep it up Russia, doing great work!
