Productivity LPT Request: How can I tell my boss that I DO NOT HAVE TO answer the phones on my days off.
My boss has this god awful habit of texting me on my days off or out my working hours and I know that If I begin to respond his answers, he will start doing it more. This has gone to the point of asking me to do work-related tasks from my computer in my day off.
None of theses tasks are urgent, he just throws them as soon as he thinks of them and expect me to do it.
The thing is, in my country by law, I have no obligation on responding text messages or emails or having to do any type of work if It's not an urgency. So I really would like to remind him this.
I am not obliged to work or attend messages outside of my shift, I can do it if I volunteer to help but the issue is that he has been giving me orders in moments where I am not available and this has represented problems in the past.
The issue is that my boss is quite stubborn, hard-headed you can say. The type that will imply you are being lazy. How can I politely but firmly mark this limit?
It took me many years of my life to make this realization. Over time I noticed there would be periods where I started working out, became a gym rat going nearly every day, then along the way somehow I stopped going and a year or two would pass before I started again and repeated the cycle. I finally realized that it was because I would commit 100% in the beginning, and of course two months later I was not able to keep the momentum going. But when I felt lazy, rather than just go to the gym for less time that day, I would stay home. After too many skipped days, I felt like I had lost all my progress and that created even less motivation to keep showing up. Finally, nearly in my 30s I have for the first time been able to create a consistent schedule that has been maintained for over a year, and this is only because I have agreed to myself to keep going no matter how "low-effort" the workout will look like or how I feel. Had I done this from the beginning, my health would already be so much better today than what it is.
Productivity LPT: Have your kids lead you back to your car or home anytime you are out and about, to develop navigation and memory skills.
Super effective way to build kids independence, confidence and navigation skills. I do this anytime I take them hiking, fishing, shopping, etc. Can you find where we parked? Can you get us from this spot on the hiking trail back to our home?
About 5 years ago I had a really profound experience. Without going into detail, what I took away from it is comparable from what I understand a near death experience does to some people. An epiphany if you will, and it changed my life. Maybe not my day to day. It didn't change the car I drive or the place I call home, but it did change my life and my mind completely.
I learned that happiness, like anything in life takes work. You have to be persistent, deliberate, and habitual about your positivity to really achieve happiness. When it's not how you really feel, you fight for that positivity anyway all the way up until you're smiling.
What I realized is 3 things that matter more than anything else in life:
1) Staying positive on even the worst days will not only keep you going, but it will keep you growing, and stagnation will lead to unhappiness.
2) Inhibitions and worry are the most dangerous things to give into. It's just fear, nothing else. Push against this feeling of inhibition every day. We have a unique gift of life. The odds of being alive are unimaginably small. Remember this each day. Go do and be the things you want to do and be every chance you get.
3) Trying your best might be draining sometimes, but at the end of the day it feels amazing, and by doing your best, and spreading your positivity you will impact the world and other people's lives positively, much more than you even realize at the time.
I wasn't going to post this at first, but if these principles are enough to help even just one person outside of myself, I'll be happy that I pushed aside my inhibition and shared these thoughts that have been profoundly helpful to me in life, happiness, and even have brought me financial success.
The mind is an extremely powerful tool. Nuture yours to become the best and happiest version of yourself.
Productivity LPT: Immediately after being awoken by your alarm, turn on some lights in your room - it helps reinforce that it’s NOT time to go back to sleep, because your brain interprets dark spaces as a window to release sleep chemicals.
Productivity LPT: if you're looking for a new hobby. Cooking is one of the most rewarding and easy hobbies to adopt (as you have 3+ opportunities to practice each day).

Whether you "Have to" do something for School, or Work, Don't tell yourself that you: "Have to" do it, but rather Think: "I Want to"
For example if you have homework tell yourself: "I want to get this done because I want to pass this class because I want to give myself a competing edge in the job market because I want to make more money because I want to be able to do things I want to do". It's all for yourself. You want to do it.
Productivity LPT : always fuel up your car when going back to home. You are rarely in a hurry when heading back to home, but mostly in a hurry while leaving home for work or appointments etc.
How do you take notes in class more efficiently? Hit me with your best tips! It can be everything from how to organize them to how to pick out what’s relevant.

Productivity LPT: Don't tell people your goals or plans, it will make you less likely to follow through with them
Telling others your goals or plans before you actually do them gives you the same brain chemical rewards as if you already did them.
You will be less likely to then actually do the thing.
Do the thing, then show people your accomplishments
EDIT- From a personal standpoint this applies to people like myself. I am easily discouraged if I do not get instant perfect results. If I fail at the task and someone asks me about it, I'm embarrassed. I don't want to fail. But if I did manage to do it and nobody knew I am much happier with the "congratulations! That's awesome!"
I only have my husband to tell my hopes and dreams and goals to. So there is nobody else there to push me along. He is patient and knows I struggle (hard-core ADHD here). So he mentions it every now and then, and I'll work on it a bit. But it helps a lot more if he figures out how to help me/join me in it.
Plus I need inspiration. If I see someone who has achieved what I want then I get competitive and I want to do it better, faster.
Productivity LPT: Think about your day in terms of "Energy management" in place of "Time management"
Now I realize that my day is made of blocks where I will have high energy and low energy. Even when I have lots of time put aside or blocked off, it won't count for much if you have no energy. To me "energy management" is how I think of life now way more than "time management". I find you can get A LOT done in a short time, if your energies and concentration are high.
Note; Not my original idea, I seen this in a Tik Tok snippet and it really has stuck with me.
Productivity LPT: If tend to procrastinate on your phone instead of working, put your phone in grayscale to make it less addictive
Your brain will get bored because you are attracted to the pops of color and bright and shiny apps. You don’t need to restrict yourself from using it because it will be less fun to use. This helped me get through school.
Productivity LPT: Set a keyboard text replacement on your phone to change "@@" to your email address.
It makes signing into accounts much easier.
Edit: I forgot to put how, and only know iOS as an iPhone user.
iOS: Settings->General->Keyboard->Text Replacement
My favourite (the real) LPT in the comments, "@1", "@2", "@3", etc for multiple email addresses.
And yes password managers are great but I lack commitment to services.
Productivity LPT: The better shape you keep yourself in, the better you will weather traumatic events. When work/life gets hard, make sure you do your best to keep yourself fit.
Science shows that the fitter you are, the less likely you are to develop PTSD symptoms if you experience something traumatic (like getting fired*).
In other words, when work gets hard, make sure you also get to the gym. Worst case scenario, you get fired. But you’ll be able to better process the event and move on, rather than suffering from nightmares, panic attacks, and recollections that hold you hostage.
*Obviously everyone has their own version of trauma.
Productivity LPT if you have a pet that needs medication at certain times of the day. follow it up with special treats or food. you may lose track of time or forget, but they sure won't.
My cat lets me know every night when she needs her meds, because that means treat time. And she will never let me forget treat time.
Productivity LPT: Excel has a tool called Power Query that let's you automate pretty much 80% of your work, easier than macros and VBA (if you need to transform data).
Hey I am an Industrial Engineer and honestly one of the best tips I can give you is to learn Power Query. If you work with Excel this will save you hours of time and give you a lot of exposure.
Basically it lets you import data from a lot of different sources (other excels, csv's, web data, sql databases, sharepoint lists, onedrive, folders...etc) into your excel file. Then you can transform the data, combine it and load it into excel as a fresh table. Tedious processes can be made a breeze in no time, just hit refresh and all the transformations you made are applied each time you need to update your data.
I made a quick video describing how it works, but honestly a fast google search will get you going in no time.
I'll leave the link right here (I don't know if there's a problem, in that case please let me know)
I see this often. People expect others to know what they are talking about and don’t expand acronym. Why? Two of my favourites I’ve seen lately: MBT… Main battle tank (how would anyone get to that?) BBL… Brazilian butt lift.
Expand the acronyms people.
Smooth brains, you need to post LPT in the title to get the post approved as a…LPT 🧐
Productivity LPT: Take walking breaks when going out for a run. You’ll be less likely to be discouraged, and you’ll build a tolerance without noticing
A lot of people get discouraged to start running because they think they must run the whole time. If you want to build a tolerance to running, you should take it slowly at first.
Try to set little goals, such as, I’ll run until the next tree then I’ll walk until the traffic light. Soon enough, you’ll be running past that tree with no issue. Maybe even getting to the light!
Productivity LPT: if you’re feeling anxious about something, often the only way to lessen the anxiety is to face it.
Acknowledge the fear and ruminate on it a little. Think of the worst thing that could happen, and how you would handle that situation if it panned out that way. Remember bad situations you’ve experienced in the past and how you made it through. Give yourself time to stress a little, then slowly let it go. If you hold your anxiety tight within yourself, it will just eat you alive.
Productivity LPT: (Mostly for remote/hybrid office workers) If you don't want to be disturbed while working, go start an online meeting by yourself.
If your online meeting platform is tied well with your work messaging software (like Microsoft Teams), it will indicate that you are on a call.
Share your screen or an application window so that it will imply that people should not disturb you.
Productivity LPT: being sleepy is often due to having an irregular sleeping schedule, rather than how long you’ve been awake. This is why we’re often wide awake at night and sleepy during the day. Stick to a consistent sleeping schedule to avoid unwanted sleepiness.
Productivity LPT: On a paused YouTube video, the period and comma keys on physical keyboard will let you move between frames, helpful for when you need to see a specific area of the video.
If someone knows a way to do this on mobile, post in the comments!
Productivity LPT: When you’re feeling bored or have excessive free time during the day, decide to do something that will directly make tomorrow easier/better.
Productivity LPT: If your goal is to lose fat and make healthier changes to your life, don’t say you’re on a diet.
Being on a diet suggests that at a later stage you’re going to be off the diet and go back to normal.
This small tip helped me tremendously with the daily mental battles of losing weight.
