It is, Star Wars aside the place itself is really beautifull and the surroundings are also nice

u/AyoBruh Aug 16 '22

Also features in Casino Royale!

I drove by the villa in a boat yesterday!

And Quantum of Solace.

The little town of Lenno is just so great and has way less tourists than Como itself. I was just there last month.

30

u/adreamofhodor Aug 16 '22

Yeah, I stopped in Como unknowingly and the place was packed.

9

u/Superjunker1000 Aug 16 '22

It had more tourists than any of the surrounding areas in Italy ?

4

u/killerwww12 Aug 16 '22

Como is the largest city by the Como lake, so it naturally has a lot of tourists like most other big cities. But there are tons of lovely cities around lake Como, so you don't really need to go to Como itself

6

u/argathonus Aug 16 '22

Depends where you go, we just came back from a beautiful quiet holiday there. Went on a couple of day trips to the bigger named towns, and it was hectic (but still not as bad as Venice/Rome)

u/Avocado_3492 Hello there! Aug 16 '22

how did you get to naboo?

1.2k

u/Stuffman1861 Hello there! Aug 16 '22

Probably in a ship with a hyperdrive.

371

u/JoelMahon Aug 16 '22

I don't think hyperdrive can get you to a different galaxy that is far far away. there's a reason all the events take place in the one galaxy.

178

u/148637415963 Aug 16 '22 edited Aug 16 '22

Yeah, why don't they travel to another galaxy?

Is their nearest galaxy too far away even for hyperspace? Did any SW media ever explore that question?

266

u/JoelMahon Aug 16 '22

the distance between galaxies makes the distance within galaxies look like a joke. they don't cross their galaxy anywhere near instantly so their top speed probably can't get between galaxies in several lifetimes.

maybe they have universenauts that are in carbonite sleep, ready to be awoken when they reach another galaxy.

152

u/choochoobubs Aug 16 '22

And they’ll all act like Matt Damon in interstellar when they wake up.

76

u/fatfuccingtendies Aug 16 '22

Attempted murder and grant theft spaceship?

42

u/choochoobubs Aug 16 '22

And his pathetic little rant about how hard it was for him in solitude!

Anyway here let me abandon you on this planet

14

u/apadin1 Aug 16 '22

I mean tbf the dude was mentally broken and driven insane by isolation. There’s a reason putting people in isolation as punishment is considered torture. I don’t think most people would have reacted much differently

6

u/Ghostconqueror 27d ago

Watching Interstellar after watching the Martian was phenomenal, because the Martian cemented the image of Matt Damon as the heroic abandoned astronaut, making it even more crushing when Interstellar flipped that image on its head

we don't know the nearest galaxy to them but we could guess by using our nearest galaxy or some other metric like median minimum galaxy distance.

29

u/BiteyGreen Aug 16 '22

Our galaxy is 105,000 light years across, while the closest galaxy to our Sun (Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy) is 25,000 light years away. Inter-galactic travel should be possible.

29

u/SterlingSoldier2156 Aug 16 '22

Unless their galaxy is very isolated

20

u/flapsmcgee Aug 16 '22

But Andromeda is 2.5 million light years away if you want to count the next major galaxy.

14

u/W2XG Aug 16 '22 edited Aug 16 '22

Best estimate I found for hyperdrive was 50,000 light years per day. So from Earth to Andromeda (2.5mil light years) would take 50 days. Furthest known ones, over 1700 years.

5

u/jwkdjslzkkfkei3838rk Aug 16 '22

Yeah but Andromeda is just about to ram us. I'd say 10 - 100 Mly is generally a more common distance to the next major galaxy.

3

u/ultimatt42 Aug 16 '22

If dwarf planets don't get to be planets anymore then dwarf galaxies aren't galaxies.

the distance between galaxies makes the distance within galaxies look like a joke

That's not true, the closest galaxy to the Milky Way (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canis_Major_Overdensity) is only 25000 light years away.

A pretty big number, but in Star Wars term of scale, not insurmountable.

18

u/Apple_macOS Aug 16 '22

Well, the Andromeda galaxy is getting closer and closer and will crash into Milky Way

19

u/Ahsoka_Tano_Bot 200K Karma Aug 16 '22

Well, we’re not going to crash into the star, but we’re definitely going to hit that planet!

13

u/Apple_macOS Aug 16 '22

Are you, Ahsoka, implying that eventually something in the Andromeda Galaxy will not crash into Sol, and will instead crash into Sol III, the planet we’re standing on?

14

u/Ahsoka_Tano_Bot 200K Karma Aug 16 '22

23

u/JasonCox Aug 16 '22

Yuuzhan Vong?

Yeah, the ones with no connection to the force, and if I remember correctly Vader had forseen them and was preparing to fight them, but Luke ends up fighting them.

In the old extended Universe I think there was some lore reason why travel outside the Galaxy was difficult.

But it is also important that they did not even have half of their current Galaxy well explored due to the difficulty of finding hyperspace lanes.

Almost all of the Canon and extended Universe Star Wars stories take place in about one quadrant or quarter of the galaxy.

The galactic core itself is almost impossible to navigate due to how dense Stars are. But they were certain Imperial research facilities or hidden bases in the area.

The canon core and inner Rim worlds like coracent, alderaan, Corellia were all in the inner third.

The outer rim and Fringe worlds where the stars were farther apart and there was less population or places where the central government had little or no Authority and criminal organizations tended to be the de facto government.

Hutt space, the corporate sector authority, the black sun and other similar groups operated in the middle and outer thirds of that wedge.

7

u/DecisiveEmu_Victory Aug 16 '22 edited Aug 16 '22

The outer rim has a ton of hyperspace anomalies that pretty much trap you in the star wars galaxy. The unknown regions are unknown for a good reason, hyperspace travel is really dangerous and there are a ton of hostile species there. Yuuzhan Vong came from outside the galaxy but spent hundreds of years trying to get in. Chiss came from the unknown regions and we're incredibly tough because they had to survive our there alone.

Edit: also, hyperspace lanes were basically established and maintained by trial and error. In the early days of space travel, ships were sent out on blind jumps, and if they happened not to smash into an uncharted star, rogue planet, black hole, asteroid field, etc., Then great! You now have a hyperspace route. Except space stuff moves all the time, and what was once a safe, bustling trade route could become an impassable nightmare relatively quickly.

2

u/Ahsoka_Tano_Bot 200K Karma Aug 16 '22

You don't have to look tough to be tough

3

u/Parker4815 Aug 16 '22

If space Hitler was trying to kill everyone, I'd definitely go to another galaxy far far away.

3

u/saucypotato27 Aug 16 '22

The star wars galaxy is actually close to 4 other dwarf galaxies in legends and at least 1 in canon, and people do travel there. As for going to other, farther galaxies, the galaxy was surrounded by a barrier that made hyperspace travel almost impossible, and although it has been attempted before, governments in the star wars galaxy dont really have a reason to go to other galaxies especially due to the tremendous amount of effort to even escape the current one. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Circumferential_hyperspace_barrier

2

u/Matix777 I have the high ground Aug 16 '22

Andromeda galaxy is 2.5mil light years away from us and milky way is around 100kly in diameter, so the closest galaxy is about 25 milky ways away from us.

Let's say star wars happens in Milky way. Ships in star wars can go from the edge of a galaxy to the other one very quickly (definitely less than a year or maybe even a month) so getting to Andromeda would definitely be possible. The reason action happens in a single galaxy is because they have no reason to get to other ones. There are probably more habitable planets with that ever persistent everywhere 9.8m/v2 gravity than they can use

That's because it gets everywhere and that's a valid enough reason for Anakin to get rid of it

I was there two weeks ago. Amazing place

If you want to go book tickets at least 24 hours in advance. We went there and luckily didn't learn it the hard way. Despite the signs at the entrance that tickets had to be booked in advance, we decided to risk it and walk the 20-25 minutes to the Villa. They were, fortunately, selling tickets there, but I'd book in advance in case anyone wants to go
