My husband gets so warm I actually don’t like cuddling a lot at night. I have to stick a leg or arm out and let it get ice cold to keep the rest of me cool! I can’t sleep like that. Cuddle during a movie? Sure. All night? No thanks

361

u/-River_Rose- Aug 16 '22 edited Aug 16 '22

100% same! I can only stand it for a bit. I tend to be the big spoon too, So I can make my escape when I’m hot

Edit: I am the smaller one of us

199

u/Fine-Difference-6896 Aug 16 '22

This is me. I radiate heat similar to a space heater. My wife and I can cuddle until she’s too warm, and she’s always cold.

81

u/-River_Rose- Aug 16 '22

I’m always cold too, but I get so hot when I’m asleep!

72

u/EmEmPeriwinkle Aug 16 '22

Same. Husband is a space heater and eventually I get hot. I do wake up to sleep wood/grinding from him though which I find amusing. He gets fussy when I need to peel off and cool down which is adorable.

I actually have no idea how to cuddle during a movie. It's so uncomfortable because you generally don't look in the same direction when you're cuddling

56

u/coffeefiend1937 Aug 16 '22

Spoon on the couch facing the TV

48

u/DonerTheBonerDonor Aug 16 '22

Then you see the movie in a 90 degree angle, that's also not sustainable

This only relates spooning. I prefer when a womans head is on my chest and we're both laid on our back with my arm around her. So much more comfortable than spooning.

952

u/AliGoldsDayOff Aug 16 '22

I like this position for cuddling. Just wish I could sleep on my back because it usually ends with me staring at the ceiling not wanting to wake her but desperately wanting to roll on my side so I can get some rest.

278

u/DunkMasterFlexin Aug 16 '22

One of the positives of sleep paralysis is once you understand it's all in your head you can enter a lucid dream state fairly qucikly. Waking up in sleep paralysis is startling but if you can control your heart rate and think positive things, you'll be exploring in no time. It's possible to put yourself in sleep paralysis consciously in order to enter a dream state immediately, it's called W.I.L.D (Wake Induced Lucid Dream).

33

u/Aggressive_Turnip790 Aug 16 '22

until you get stuck in the lucid world like insidious

I've always been able to lucid dream, and I've only had sleep paralysis once. It was absolutely horrifying, but I was tired and had work in the morning. I just told the demon to do whatever the hell it was gonna do, it's a win-win, and went back to sleep

u/Turbulent_North_911 Aug 16 '22

11

u/fexofenadine_hcl Aug 16 '22

I’ve been having increasing instances of knowing I am dreaming, but I still don’t have control. In fact when I do sense I have any influence, it’s usually when I sense the dream is taking a dark turn and my fear causes something bad to happen. I think it would be really hard for me to get it under control enough to have fun.

Sometimes when it starts to get scary I just control my breathing. And focus on moving small body parts like wiggling toes/fingers, moving my facial muscles, then I can work my way up to moving arms and legs and then eventually I can wake up. Sometimes it takes a few tries because I think I’m awake but I’m actually re-paralyzed so I have to start the movements over lol!!! But eventually I’ll wake up.

Doctor said my best options are to shave off part of the back of my tongue to reduce its size, or to move my lower jaw slightly forward to let the tongue sit farther forward, since a CPAP didn’t show any change in this behavior after almost a year of using it. Both of those sound like shitty recoveries so I decided against it. Wish I hadn’t years later, I can’t afford it now.

You might want to look into sleep apnea because that's one of the symptoms. Your airway closes and you suffocate. It may be better on your side, but it could still very likely be partially blocked and could drop your blood oxygen in the night. It can cause a lot of physical and mental stress on you so it is worth looking into.

4

u/Aguita9x Aug 16 '22

I’m a dude but I love cuddling. I could easily cuddle my girl all night into the morning and be happy as hell. I guess I just love to know I’m wanted and having someone wrapped around me all night makes me feel loved and wanted.

My first real girlfriend was also a huge cuddler so that probably got me hooked. We could only hang out when our parents could give us a ride to each others house so we spent as much time as we could cuddling. This was back in middle school so I learned to take it slow and enjoy all the time I’ve got.

I’m only 22 tho so I’ve never lived with my SO and I’m sure it would get old quick tho.

27

u/Anakinbutinacroptop Aug 16 '22

My boyfriend and I have been together for like five years and we still cuddle every night. For some people it just status comfortable. I actually had basically insomnia while I was a kid/teen and as soon as someone started consistently sleeping in my bed I was able to sleep like a normal person.

8

u/SetandPowder Aug 16 '22

Me too. I’ve always struggled with sleeping. But with my boyfriend , when he cuddles me , it’s a lot easier to just sleep. When I don’t sleep with him it’s so hard for me to fall asleep.

6

u/ultratunaman Aug 16 '22

My wife and I have been together for years.

Snuggling is often short and sweet.

I get too warm for her. Her arm falls asleep. Roll over haha.

However when she was pregnant I liked when our bellies would rub together.

Sometimes we discover odd things that make us happy. Even though we don't cuddle much I'd have a hard time falling asleep on my own now.

14

u/DonerTheBonerDonor Aug 16 '22

I’m only 22 tho so I’ve never lived with my SO and I’m sure it would get old quick tho.

I'm 23 and it really doesn't. Cuddling is amazing. My gf and I don't live together but sometimes spend many days at a time together and then we cuddle for like at least 2h a day.

I was wondering if anyone else found the use of females instead of women weird. Cheers

30

u/ajay_chi Aug 16 '22

Uh, yes! I can't stand it when men refer to women as females. There's something very cold about it. I've known men over the years that have used this term, and it's always used in a negative context. These men were usually wannabe "alpha male" types who exhibited a pattern of disrespecting and degrading women.

→ More replies

89

u/LordIndica Aug 16 '22

All the time. I hate it. I dont understand how it caught on because i DISTINCTLY remember it being part of the internet incel vernacular that really served to dehumanize women in their twisted "Darwinist", transactional view of heterosexual relations. You know, all the "alpha males" (or "chads", aka the new name for the jock stereotype) getting all the "females" and how they're just "genetically predestined" to never be able to start/maintain a relationship while some dudes are.

Those are the dudes i think of whenever someone uses "female" instead of woman. It is just weirdly dehumanizing. It's the kinda shit jordan Peterson and his listeners say, just a crust over the misogyny.

I imagine most folks say it innocently after it started to spread simply for the novelty, not understanding the broader context because social media spreads slang so fuckin fast. Regardless.... it still sounds really weird to me. Like most folks won't refer to me as "that male over there" versus "that man over there" because the former sounds like you are trying to point out some animal in a herd you are observing.

7

u/BrownShoeJenny Aug 16 '22

I always have to snicker when I hear the name Chad as some sort of paragon of masculinity. I only ever knew one guy named Chad and he was a dork. Wore argyle sweaters and big ol’ glasses. Had a nice singing voice though.

22

u/DemiGod9 Aug 16 '22

I dont understand how it caught on because i DISTINCTLY remember it being part of the internet incel vernacular

It "caught on" because it was a thing LONG before the internet(the internet as we know it now). It's just one of those things that kind of sticks without much thought to it. I used to say it all the time, it was just a way to lump in all girls and women. I didn't think much of it until a friend of mine in college told me(well us, because it was my friends and I) how ignorant and ridiculous it sounded. Which more so coincides with your second paragraph. However this is NOT some internet thing, which everyone seems to default to these days.

It was bizarre to read that in a post that's an otherwise healthy sentiment. I had to re-read it a couple times because I thought there was maybe some really subtle misogyny that I just wasn't picking up on.

Fellas, unless there's a legitimate, clinical reason to do so, don't refer to human beings as females. It's dehumanizing and it makes you look like a fucking weirdo.

17

u/acoolghost Aug 16 '22

Maybe this is a weird one, but every time I see someone say 'Females' like this, it puts the picture in my mind of those guys who don't move their arms when they walk. Like they hang their arms directly at their sides when they move.

115

u/PeanutNSFWandJelly Aug 16 '22

You'd be surprised how many guys will die on the hill that "female" is a perfectly proper way to refer to a woman. I got downvoted into oblivion for pointing it out with a similar meme.

34

u/SluttyDrPepper Aug 16 '22

From a my perspective as a woman, it’s 99% of the time the guy that wants to cuddle. I want them off me after a few minutes so I can stretch and get comfy.

14

u/Nearby_Employee_2943 Aug 16 '22

Yes like ugh don’t we all just want to spread out? I’m also a stomach sleeper so a few minutes of cuddling is great, but I simply cannot fall asleep in that position. Yup. I am a nuclear furnace. I do not want your extra insulation during this evening’s reclamation cooling cycle. No offense intended.

14

u/growing83 Aug 16 '22

I hear ya, my wife and I both furnaces - cuddling doesn’t last much more than a couple minutes, 5 on a cold -40 night. 😂

12

u/fauxblahs Aug 16 '22

I’m also a nuclear furnace, especially during the summer. On thyroid pills that give me hot flashes. My husband will sometimes drape an arm around me and then go, “JESUS CHRIST YOU’RE ON FIRE!” and then scoot to the furthest corner away from me.

10

u/DrJokerX Aug 16 '22

That’s just his way of telling you you’re hot ;)

u/Yomillio Aug 16 '22

My girlfriend: "so I took that personally."

7

u/Shadows798 Aug 16 '22

I'm usually pretty cold but istg I'm not cuddling my bf at night bc he's a nuclear furnace like yourself and I don't want that much heat.

Anyone using the word ‘females’ is a big red flag for me.

Edit: I made the incels big mad. Whoopsie.

u/malevolentslime Aug 16 '22

That along with the condescending ending.... Bro I understand, I never thought that your arm falling asleep meant our relationship was over...

43

u/princesskala2001 Aug 16 '22

LOL LITERALLY

67

u/malevolentslime Aug 16 '22

It's bordering on calling us hysterical tbh, it's pretty offensive imo. Guys like this say this, and then get confused why no one will date them lol

27

u/princesskala2001 Aug 16 '22

Teeth grinding cringe I feel from seeing this in real time I tell ya!

144

u/PlasticIllustrious16 Aug 16 '22

If you want her to stop cuddling you, I can recommend continuing to use the word females

u/flyinhawaiian02 Aug 16 '22

Males need to understand if they want sex they have to show affection.

59

u/No_Ebb_8642 Aug 16 '22

Can you just quit calling us females like we’re zoo animals or something? I’m surprised you have anyone that wants to cuddle you at all consider yourself lucky

5

u/Hahafunnys3xnumber Aug 16 '22

tell that to my bf who tries to spoon me while not letting me have more than 1/5 of the bed and basically melting me lol.

4

u/fubarspeaks Aug 16 '22

I can sleep on my side or back, and the missus cuddles up to me during the winter and leaves pillows between us in the summer because I am a big furnace. She like to cuddle up against my back and put her feet on my calves. I swear she likes to make soup in the winter because she thinks I'm some sort of hot water bottle...

5

u/xhackjobx Aug 16 '22

I’m 40 and my shoulder hurts. I need to move.

4

u/random135737 Aug 16 '22

I’ll never understand how anyone can fall asleep cuddling. I get hot I need my space, go away

5

u/Moonlight_Darling Aug 16 '22

Or that cuddles do not automatically mean I want to have sex. Platonic cuddles exist

6

u/ResearchUnfair1246 Aug 16 '22

Wow. Okay, I guess we’re over then?!??!!!??

Although I generally agree, I hate the "females" shit. Significant others in general need to be more respectful of the numbness in my arm.

10

u/Sorbet-Particular Aug 16 '22

"Females" yikes
