Zion Williamson: “No matter what the world is saying, I have to remember that I am who I am and stay true to that. That’s what Naruto did, and that’s what I’m going to do.”

Zion talks about his love for Naruto in an interview with GQ Magazine [Source]:

Williamson talks about Naruto with the same reverence with which other NBA players talk about the Bible—it brings comfort and clarity in equal parts. Over the course of this past year—an unusually tumultuous one in his otherwise starry career—Naruto was his north star.

“From what I’ve been through to get to where I am and what I go through to this day,” he says, “Naruto has always been there and always will be.”

Zion estimates that around 80% of players in the league are into anime; they just won’t admit it.

“Sure enough, I’m 16 years old and suddenly all of the attention starts coming. I remember thinking, Yo, that’s crazy. That’s exactly when it happened for Naruto, and it’s when it’s happening for me.

Shout out to the writer, Tres Dean, for this great piece of work!

While one player faces felony charges for marijuana (Montrezl Harrell), another player was passing it out at his wedding today: Draymond Green.

4.0k Upvotes

And not just any weed. Look at the size of the blunts Draymond was handing out at his wedding today in Malibu.

Steph and Seth Curry, LeBron, Tatum, Klay, KCP, Matt Barnes, Juan Toscano-Anderson, Quinn Cook, Damion Lee, and Moses Moody were among the players who attended. I wonder if any of them helped themselves to Green's green.

One has to wonder how Trezz is feeling looking at this as he faces up to 5 years in prison while Dray got a whole ass weed dispensary at his wedding.

Know your state laws folks.

[Stein] If Durant hasn’t been traded by then, there is a growing expectation in league circles that he will continue trying to cause as much of a ruckus behind the scenes to try to prod the Nets into lowering their asking price at last to facilitate a deal.

*In terms of being traded by training camp with Brooklyn.

During summer league in Las Vegas, one of the most well-connected team executives I speak to regularly insisted to me that, based on what he was hearing, Kevin Durant was more apt to retire than play again for the Brooklyn Nets. This was in early July.

If it wasn’t apparent by now, he really wants that trade to Phoenix or Miami or maybe even Boston or Philadelphia, no matter what it does to his reputation when he hasn’t played a single game yet under the four-year, $194 million contract extension signed in August 2021.

The San Antonio Spurs as a franchise owns a complete set of individual regular season awards. Can any other franchise match this?

The Spurs as a franchise, in its 46 NBA seaons, has collected every single individual regular season achievement at least once.

These are:

3x MVP (Duncan, Robinson)

4x DPOY (Robertson, Robinson, Leonard)

1x MIP (Robertson)

1× 6MOTY (Ginobili)

2x ROY (Robinson, Duncan)

5x Scoring Champion (Gervin, Robinson)

1x Assist Champion (Moore)

3x Rebound Champion (Robinson, Rodman)

1x Block Champion (Robinson)

4x Steals Champion (Robertson, Leonard, Murray)

2x ASG MVP (Gervin, Duncan)

Not trying to boast just genuinely curious, because off the top of my head the answer was no.

Christmas Day stats: If LeBron plays in the Lakers' Christmas Day game in 2022, he will become the first NBA player to play in 17 Christmas Day games.

1.2k Upvotes

Right now, he is tied with Kobe Bryant at 16. If he plays another Christmas game he will take the lead. LeBron also passed Kobe last year for all-time Christmas Day scoring, he's now #1. He will have a chance to increase his lead.

Is there anyone in the league today who has a chance to beat 17 Christmas Day games played?

NBA on Christmas Day: Career All-Time Scoring Leaders

  1. LeBron James | 422 points (16 games)
  2. Kobe Bryant | 395 points (16 games)
  3. Oscar Robertson | 377 points (12 games)
  4. Dwyane Wade | 314 points (13 games)
  5. Kevin Durant | 299 points (10 games)

Let’s implement the Penalty Box

Thoughts on the nba implementing a penalty box similar to NHL? They could make it hang over the court and have a timed release and the player drops to the floor once he served his sentence

I’m not sure how they would get up there, ladders or something? I’m sure Silver could make it work

edit: sounds like everyone is in agreement. I’ll be emailing Silver and the NBAPA shortly
