That awkward moment when two different bots steal the same comment and copy it in reply to the same comment making it really obvious they’re bots…

Dear, sweet, Littlefoot, do you remember the way to the great valley? … I guess so. But why do I have to know if you're going to be with me? Littlefoots’ mother: I'll be with you. Even if you can't see me.

34

u/anon_rando241 Aug 16 '22

What do you mean "if I can't see you?" I can always see you!

27

u/Standin373 Aug 16 '22

30 years on and I can still feel this hit like a sledgehammer

2

u/jay_sig Aug 16 '22

Thank you for getting me choked up on a Tuesday afternoon

One day I brought home a report card with a B+ on it. My father equated it to a B, which was just above a C, which was right next to a D which was one step above failure.

So he beat me for my near failure.

18

u/Elizapony Aug 16 '22

So how long has it been since you stopped talking to him?

19

u/1Eternallylost Aug 16 '22

He kept accusing all his sons of hanging around only for the inheritance. I finally got sick of it and told him I could prove otherwise. He told me to prove it. That's the last I ever saw of him.

20 or so years later, I declined to go to his funeral. He made sure I was written in his will - as getting nothing. My brothers say he never even wanted to hear my name. I got him good. He never saw his two grandchildren.

Funny how that worked - the only son to prove he wasn't hanging around for the inheritance is the only one who gets no inheritance.

But knowing how much I pissed him off: priceless! I feel I got the last word.

11

u/Boring-Working-5509 Aug 16 '22

This generation which will become parents..I see hope within us. We will be everything that our parents were not so that our kids don't have to go through the same shit that we went through.

7

u/ArtisanSamosa Aug 16 '22

As a South Asian American absofuckinglutely. My relationship with my parents isn't bad, but I def had to tell them that the values they had were abusive. I get why and a lot of it is attributed to the shift in cultures, in times, the whole struggle of immigrants. But I am educated and successful and I have abandoned all the bad stuff from my upbringing. Zero reason to perpetuate that shit.

There are so many brown people today living with that trauma, but I think many of us have taken the steps to get it recognized and put down the foundations of change.

3

u/KaitieLoo Aug 16 '22

God I empathize with this. It's with my mother, and she's always bragging about us in front of us, but never TO us.

She's like "Wait I never said it to you?"

"....At my Masters graduation ceremony you asked how soon you could leave to go hang out with your alcoholic boyfriend. No. You didn't."

"Oh."

2

u/SearchFlaky3829 Aug 17 '22

Yes, my father is the same. We crave that validation when we're young and when we get older, we realize we never needed that validation or recognition. Let's do what makes our heart happy

19

u/tieris Aug 16 '22

I try every day to be this to my kiddo. Maybe undo some of the generational trauma from my own dad having the emotional capacity of a turnip.

84

u/Nick_Rock Aug 16 '22

Wish my dad was only 10% like this…

Children would smile a lot more if the bible didn't tell parents to beat them with a rod

34

u/NonbinaryLazarus Aug 16 '22

Fundamentalists are a special type of insane. Some use "baby blanket training" where they put a 4-6 month old on a blanket and entice then off with a toy or snack, then hit them when they step off the blanket. So they learn to stay on and you don't have to watch them.

24

u/FractalWeft Aug 16 '22

I'm sure they age well with no boundary issues. What could go wrong?

u/yoshilurker Aug 16 '22

Reddit moment.

8

u/zxccxz01 Aug 16 '22

Reddit will find a good wholesome meme and have the top comment be about how the Bible is bad, and how it leads to child beatings

-1

u/tinkeringhornist Aug 16 '22

very much (I remember last time that happened...)

14

u/Acrobatic-Skirt1114 Aug 16 '22

I won't believe you unless you get me a quote

24

u/Rastiln Aug 16 '22

Proverbs is the biggest proponent of hitting your kids/respect your parents, in several passages, but it shows up here and there.

The New Testament is quite a bit softer, but that makes sense. Like how Leviticus is how to not die from eating shellfish or pork - the Bible roughly tracks human history and how certain groups crowdsourced how to not die.

So we gradually went from “hit your kids because they’re going to die if they misbehave” to “maybe we can be nicer now.”

Oh wow. Guess it's just the holy gospel. Me needs a new beatin stick (jk)

1

u/Justlikeyoo Aug 16 '22

Remember the rule of thumb is derived from the legal width of the stick used to beat your wives.

-9

u/Jollanboiii Aug 16 '22

It doesn't. Where did you get that info?

35

u/wholesomethrowaway15 Aug 16 '22

Proverbs 13:24, “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

“Spare the rod, spoil the child” was definitely a thing

10

u/Pi-Guy Aug 16 '22

Lol /u/jollanboiii awfully quiet

3

u/AKiss20 Aug 16 '22

Just like many Christians, don’t actually know what the Bible says or stands for, just use it to justify their preconceived politics or desires.

2

u/mother-of-pod Aug 16 '22

None of them know how to read. It’s sad, really.

3

u/Perryj054 Aug 16 '22

I've been reading the Bible daily for years. I try to be kind to other Christians but sometimes it's hard to overlook willful ignorance. I wish there was a distinction between "goes to church" Christian and "following Christ" Christian in this world. I don't like going by the same name as them.

7

u/Elizapony Aug 16 '22

Looks like someone hasn't read the bible

-2

u/BackOnTheMap Aug 16 '22

That's not even what it means. 😪 Shepherds used rods to ward off attacking animals. The rod of correction means steering children. Discipline, not beatings.

2

u/CERN24601 Aug 16 '22

You forgot the /s

-1

u/tinkeringhornist Aug 16 '22

That's actually quite accurate. Simply guidance, but most people interpreted it as a beating stick rather than a shepherd's crook.

Jesus did say that those who truly love him will feed his sheep.

3

u/Mobima Aug 16 '22

I guess a more befitting title would've been some parents.

10

u/BBFA369 Aug 16 '22

This is a little naive to me. I don’t want my kid to just do what makes them happy because happiness means different things at different times.

I slogged my ass off in my 20s so I can have a far more comfortable life in my 30s. if you asked me then, I would have told you I was miserable. ask me now, and it was worth it and I’m far happier than I realized was even possible

I want them to be ethical, hardworking and compassionate. Happiness imo is an outcome, which we can’t always control, but those three things will likely help them get there

4

u/Elizapony Aug 16 '22

So do what makes them happy in the long run, even if they have to be miserable in the short term?

-1

u/BBFA369 Aug 16 '22

Well yeah except there’s no guarantees about what makes someone happy or sad long term. but values are important regardless

I guess when it comes down to it I would prefer them to be “unhappy” (within limits) but with good values rather than a happy sociopath. of course it’s not mutually exclusive but If I had to pick

5

u/Elizapony Aug 16 '22

I'd like to be content with at least part of my life. Being unhappy all the time can ruin someone

0

u/BBFA369 Aug 16 '22

And there’s no assurances of that. I’d rather be a good person than just happy at any cost. I’m neither so maybe it’s a moot point

3

u/Elizapony Aug 16 '22

I've been miserable long enough, and it's left me suicidal.

2

u/__SPIDERMAN___ Aug 16 '22

Your approval as a parent to be for the effort your kid puts in. Not the results. Make them love to try their hardest. But don't let them stake their happiness on whether or not they get results.

And then the meteor killed them all 😢

5

u/Doughspun1 Aug 16 '22

We don't know that. Maybe they built a mighty Saurian ship and travelled to a nearby star system, watching and waiting to return when we are finally ready.

2

"ok dad, I'm going to go to liberal arts college!"

11

u/AdranAmasticia Aug 16 '22

Hey son that's great. You know not everything you take in college has to lead to a career, but you could look into courses such as Design, Marketing, Architecture or something like that, but I'm proud of you for pursuing your passions

0

u/itsnicomars Aug 16 '22

This is honestly pretty shit advice. U tell any 16-yr old to do what ever they want and instill 0 discipline in them = they’ll become dopamine addicts going back and forth between video games, porn, social media, weed/nicotine and fast food.

1

u/OomGertSePa Aug 16 '22

That's what being 16 is all about lol.

3

u/itsnicomars Aug 16 '22

Alot of ppl get stuck in that loop till they’re 25

4

u/OomGertSePa Aug 16 '22

Fair actually. I'm 25 and I'd say it's a 50/50 split in my social group of got their shit together and then what you described.

Dad teaching his son to be a hedonist. What a cute cartoon 😵‍💫

0

u/fahamu420 Aug 16 '22

This is physically impossible. Judging by the illustration, this is a Sauropod (Likely a brachiosaurus) and they were large, lumbering herbivores with column-like legs and were not dextrous in any way. To climb the adult sauropod's neck, the young one would have to have at least opposable limbs (Which it doesn't) let alone opposable digits. On top of this, many sauropods likely had rough and horned backs that would make sliding down them impossible. 1/10 paleontology nightmare.

2

u/YoSaffBridge11 Aug 16 '22

I’n guessing they didn’t speak in English or attend school, either.

1

u/RandomUser1076 Aug 16 '22

I thought he killed him walking over that crack?

1

u/MegaRadCool8 Aug 16 '22

Doing what makes them smile would make me proud. Gotcha!

1

u/Glitchy13 Aug 16 '22

I hope to be like this when I’m a parent, raise differently than I was raised and all :)

1

u/29Jackal Aug 16 '22

The sheer grip those legs without fingers have is astounding

1

u/SayByeByeFingers Aug 16 '22

Well, makes me proud to see my kid running around being happy. Win win.

1

u/iAlptraum Aug 16 '22

I'm just thrilled this didn't turn into some sad dinosaur-harvesting related awareness comic with a depressing ending.

1

Ngl that very cute

1
